Couple small things

Just a few things I wanted to mention, it's been a little while..

First and foremost, I wanted to issue a public notice to anyone here who uses SmartFTP as their FTP transfer application.  It's been very popular over the years, mainly because it is/was one of the best "free for home use" FTP programs (there are others) available.  As all users of it know, ever so often, it's only quirk was that it would make you download (and/or reinstall if you simply saved the install executable) it once in awhile, presumedly to ensure you were using the latest version.  Well this morning, I was greeted with that message.  I ran my saved exe installer, only to see the same message again. "Oh, cool, an update", I thought, wondering what new features (and fixes to a few things that didn't work for me) could be in state for this new version.  So I clicked on the link provided by SmartFTP which takes you to the downloads section.  I selected my version, downloaded it, and installed it, as I am all-too-familiar with.  After it installed, it launched (actually, it told me I needed to reboot, which was somewhat unheard of for the ftp application).  Instead of being greeted by the usual "You have used SmartFTP for xxx days", I briefly noticed it say "You have 6 days left on your trial".  6 days, what's this??  I quit the app and restarted, sure enough that's what it said..  So I went searching their site (which I noticed no mention of 'By the way, the new version is pay for use for all') until I found a locked thread on their site from someone clearly as aggrevated and confused as I was.  The admin responce read basically that it's clearly listed on the purchase link (which you had to click on previously if you were using it for commercial/govt/non-profit use) as well as in a licensing link.  He also claims it is mentioned during the install (went through it too fast, after having reinstalled it like 20 times over the years), but nothing looked any different to me..

Anyway, the point of this is.. If you USE this application and you do not feel like it is worth $37 (for generic FTP access, not secure, which is now $50), don't bother installing the 6 day trial "update"..  Uninstall it, send a letter to complain to them about their shady tactics, and move on.  There are other Free-FTP applications out there.

Update #1:  In reply to my post regarding my displeasure and concerns to the people of SmartFTP, they deleted my post and blocked my account from forums access.  Mind you, I was respectful and, like another post hidden away, I made it clear that well, pretty like I put it up above..  How mature to just delete the post.  Wonder how many hundred/thousand(??) they'll delete before they grow tired of that?  FTP is a funny animal.  It's something (most) don't use every day, but when you need it, you want it to work - Not find out, Ooo it's six-day trial ware now??  Well SmartFTP delete my post there all you want, this post still stands.

In Other News....

I have no clue what happened with the 101st Skeleton Cowboys match.  I logged in this morning and was greeted to a 1/0 win against them.  As the forums indicate, TWL shows us for a win (NOT by forfeit) and a loss ("defeated by cKs") on theirs.  I can only assume they weren't able to muster up the troops and instead reported a loss and snuck quietly into the sunset.  Woz and I would like to thank you all for setting the time for this, and HOPE we can still turn it into a TWL vs. ALL match tonight on the main server.  Woz has already challenged another team to keep us up and busy on TWL.  Please follow through on the forums and continue to be active :)

Finally, the Main Server is going to be updated to the latest version of the ACE mod (the mod we generally use for our custom maps, fellas).  I can't promise any of the 'this weapon doesn't feel right' will be changed, but when the modServer is up, please let me know.  There are bug fixes and new features, but a majority of the mod has been rewritten to make it easier for the dev. to add even MORE new, cool stuff to come.  And as a result of all this rewriting, I have had to redo the entire configuration.  So if something doesn't seem or 'feel' right (just as we tweaked the mod on the SmallServer), xfire me away.. I'll update/change as we go.
