The recent Site Outtage

Attention all cKs members and friends, PLEASE read this important message:

On recent occasions from mid-June to yesterday, it appears our site has been manipulated. Somone seeded our server with phishing sites, that is, people who typed in the name of a popular website, as example, paypall.com instead of paypal.com would/could get redirected to a hidden website within our website. At which time, if they unknowingly entered their login/password information it would/could get sent to whoever was responsible, ie identity theft. The host and I have been working all day to ensure all content on the server is legit and nothing remains that shouldn't. As a precaution all passwords which behind the scenes run this puppy have been changed. I have also changed my Joomla password. I **HIGHLY** encourage you to do so as well, and in addition, if you are the type who use the same login/password at lots of places, it is recommended that you change those as well. Again, there was no sign of any malicious activity as far as our site is concerned, it was merely being used as a mule for fake sites. But I encourage you all to play it safe nonetheless and change them :)

Additionally, as a result, it is unfortunate that some features are going to have to be disabled for security reasons. I'm not going to get into detail on the matter, but I would ask you all to report anything that doesn't seem to be working right so I can look into whether it's a result of host/my file deletions, or an issue with the additional layer of security.

- The NEW KotK #2 is starting NOW!! So if you missed out on the first one, or let too much slip away, another chance is coming your way! The rewards for #2 will mimic the first (unless Art wins again, then he can select another similar priced game), the rest all receiving forum badges as well just like KotK #1. There had been some talk about KotK being on COD4, but lack of popularity shall keep it on COD5. What IS different this time is that it will be based on your K/D RATIO!! Specifically Kills minus Deaths equals your total score. Good luck to all!!

KING OF THE KILLS!!!!!! Win Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2!!

As of today, June 1st through June 31st there is a challenge extended to you all!! Top bragging rights, shiny forum bling bling, and an actual prize (MODERN WARFARE 2 PC PRE-ORDER SENT TO YOU)(*or the paypal equivillent if gamestop will not allow different buying/shipping address - Offer not good for any deluxe/collector's editions, core/base game only) will be awarded to the top member on June's end Four runner ups will receive the top two items (sorry, no unlimited funds to get ya games).. A special Stat program will be tracking this month, and this month only to show you who's who and where you're at! Think you've got what it takes? Man up and enter the fragfest!

*The top 5 will be based on the stat's top 5, which does not factor kills to deaths. Having less deaths just makes you a better player, it will not win you the prize. Having the most kills is what counts for this! (Hence the title King of the Kills!!)

*This challenge is ONLY valid for players who have a forum account here. You do not have to be a member of the cKs to win, but you must be registered on the website.

In other news...

Well, plenty going on here at cKs as always! Members, please be on the lookout for artistic challenges in the forums areas.

If you are a cKs member, be sure you can see/have access to all of the areas of the forums (namely the members only forum). For some reason, at least one member did NOT have access (ME!!). There are two easy ways to do this. 1. If you see 'Members posts' on the main page and click a link and get an error about access, OR if you click on the forums, and then categories tab you will see several discussion forums, such as: General, Spiritual, Members Only, Bad Gamer??, and eBay at cks.. If you don't see those, specifically the Member's only one, lol, let me know. If you see any other ones, or if you see garbled characters, let me know that as well, preferrably via xfire.

Progress on the site is still coming along (slowly as you probably have noticed). I'm aware of the problem with logging in bringing up a white page at first, then you have to refresh to make it work - Happening to me as well, and hoping to nail that down 1st thing. Other than this, now is the time to start Xfiring me about issues and broken features. EVERY cKs member should have the ability to post news/blogs on the main page (once the 'submit news' appears, than later a blog feature as well). Please note well in advance - If you use IE7 (unsure about IE8), you MAY get a calendar.setup error when trying to enter the submit news module. This is a known issue that is being worked on. The workaround is to use (don't laugh) a browser that does not give you that error (ala Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc).

In closing, for some odd reason this template is set up to display important news (newsflashes) AT THE BOTTOM on the page - This, to me, is odd.. You'd think they would be at the top. Anyway, one of my other projects will be to re-assign old news items that I blissfully assigned (the other template did not seperate the categories in the same way). Until then, you may notice some really old news items appearing down there (the dark grey area at the bottom).

April Announcements

It wouldn't be a new month without some form of Web Hosting Problems once again.. Yes.. For who-only-knows WHAT reason, the site has been moved from the server they JUST moved it to the other month to YET ANOTHER server (Hence the day-long outtage). Or, that's what mixed reports state.. One spot says the servers were migrated again (moved), another just claims a web server outtage. Anywho... Shockingly, once again, the site is painfully slow and not working right. Hope to have my end cleared up with the site tonight, no clue when they'll resolve the new speed issue. Ticket, as usual, has been submitted.

Alrighty gamers :) ~cKs~ is proud to announce we have an official L4D server! Feel free to join us at 85.234.148.42:27025 !!!

Please take note the 1st week or so of April (this is NOT an April Fool) some of the secondary servers (TeamSpeak, NWN server, etc) will be down. Downtime will be kept to a minimum as best possible.
