If you notice, I mentioned that I struggled with whether or not to post this song and and a bit of their story. No they are not a Christian band. But I believe after reading about them and looking into it a bit that they are Christians. In my opinion, if they were a Christian band, they likely would never have won the Grammy for best song, or even received a nomination for that matter.
They are the sons of a baptist preacher. The name "Kings of Leon" is a reference to their Father and Grandfather, each named Leon.
My point in posting is that I think after some trying personal times, ie. the divorce of their family, they still love The Lord . I believe their inclusion of their praying before a show in the video, and their wearing of the Cross in general says something. Some celebrities, namely entertainers, wear the Cross as some gaudy display having little or nothing to do with The Lord. I do not believe this to be the case with these boys.
And I mentioned their other songs being unChristian ( risque), so there I agree. I believe they may have lost their way, and what we are witnessing now is their finding their way back home to Jesus. That is something impossible to know. I just know that I have been strongly moved, for weeks, to post this song.
I believe that the current generations of young people need some of their cultural celebrities to let it be known that they love Jesus. That is what I look for, and here, I believe I have found it. A small dose of the love of The Lord displayed before millions of young people, but a dose nonetheless. In a popular culture with very, very few outwardly Christian entertainers or celebrities of any sort, I think we need all Christians in the spotlight to speak up.
A couple of other examples of this line of thought: Creed (90's) Kansas - although much more obvious in their faith (70's and 80's). Neither of these were what you would call a Christian Band ( Kansas was close) but young people that I knew pointed with pride to their being Christians.
In this Madonna/Britney Spears culture, I am just looking for help anywhere I can find it.
