I have been working on bringing our site to a more 'up-to-date' standard. I don't know that it will make it run any faster, but it will certainly be more stable/secure, and add some default features (some of which I hacked stock code to create/simulate) that will facilitate things much easier, and make the site much more configurable for us, which is ALWAYS a good thing.
I've been working steadily on it on a test server at my home, and while my work is by no means complete, I have successfully converted/made work all of the important areas to us: The forums, the accounts (logging in!), and the articles/news.
As I've told a small select few, there are a couple modules I'm struggling with. They are big, clunky modules. We (Res and I) had to do A LOT of work to make them work the way we wanted, and even some of that has been removed/disabled through various past minor updates/upgrades (older members, remember the badges/achievements, GYP(games you play) sections that are currently gone?). Some of those clunky modules, as I call em, are responsible for things 'not quite' working as expected; like our registration/lost password systems and the fact that when cKs gets a new registration, instead of getting an email sent to me that there is a new member, and who they are - I get an email saying there's a new member, and no name is listed o.0 (rofl, don't even ask!!)
With all that in mind, I've been debating between creating the site "fresh and new", giving it my best at migrating every aspect, and working from there, or kind of a hybrid, where the forums, userbase, and articles (news) remain, but everything will be revamped and installed fresh and new. I'm leaning toward the last option. It means some things may be gone temporarily, like the PM system, and when it DOES come back, it will be new, IE all old messages will be gone forever. The trade-off is every system will work as it should, without hacks/mods/workarounds (aside of what I've already done, that is) and should be very solid. As time permits during the holidays, I will of course continue to add "updated" modules, as well as some exciting new things which the new system will allow. (membership map showing demographics of where we all are, something we were just unable to make work with the old, hacked system for example, and all the achievements/badges systems back up and running).
The new site (it's just a newer version of this site, don't worry too much) will have the same looking theme, at first. They make the same theme, just a newer version, so for simplicity sake, we're going to run with that till the site is set up as desired. Then theme modification will begin as we hopefully give this place an entirely new look.
I just wanted to give you guys a heads up on what's coming. At some point over the next few days, depending on when I get a couple more things finished up, this site is going to be down. It'll be down because of the upgrade process, NOT because of a host/server/router/other problem :) I will create a channel in TeamSpeak essentially alerting you of the status when it happens, so you'll know. The desire to retain posts/news/accounts DOES mean a longer downtime, as I have to grab the data when the site shuts down, and run it through some scripts to modify the code (database, actually) to be compatible with it's newer counterparts, so it will take some time.
It was a Smash of a Good Time!

Thanks to all who played it the cKs clan / Match Sunday night. Seems everyone had a good time and the turn out was Fantastic!. I will work on getting some of the TS3 issues resolved this week and we will do a little more research on rules and server settings. It was also mentioned that we should be practicing more than once a week. Now that squad channels are up and running it should be easy to do. If you have any suggestions or specific maps / game play style you would like please make a post in the forums!
As always I'll see you in the battle field!

To all cKs folks who are registered with us this should be of interest to you. Starting Sunday December 16th @ 9:30 EST we are starting a cKs clan / gaming night. It will be a match between cKs members and all non-members who would like to join us. You will be put into squads and play as a squad during the match. If you have enough friends, and would like to form your own squad or all ready have a squad that is great. If any of you have squad leader experience and would like to lead one of these squads, please post in the forums under BF3, and the title Sunday night match night. For anyone who has questions / comments please post in the BF3 topic and sub title Sunday night match night.
You will need to be in our team speak by 9:30 pm EST in the general channel. There you will be assigned to a squad and a squad channel.
We’re excited about this new format and are looking forward to a GREAT evening of fun.
See you all in the battle field

New maps and gametype are online now! Server is set (for a short time, as we did with previous expansions) to JUST run the new maps. They are grouped by gametype so you can experience every game type with each map :)

First off, I'd like to bring to the forefront Monte and BBD. Although Monte stepped away, it was his fire and desire to get something going that spurred us all, and BBD played just as important a part. I with Monte the best, he was the 1st "member" to join us, err, join the split from the original clan, and will always be welcome back (hint hint, lol). That said, I'd also like to give a warm welcome back to BBD, who is bringing himself back to the group along with a strong passion to light some fires under us :)
I'd also like to apologize to ya'll. .As some of the positions here were vacated, I never really fought to get them filled and "keep things going". I mean, I thought I did. After a lot of great advice on ideas for our group, I sat back last night, both on TS and afterwards thinking of the last few years that we've been struggling. I thought about all the messages I had posted about this or that, realizing in the back of my mind more needed to be done. Well, more IS going to be done. In the coming weeks I'm going to be revamping several things, and we're gonna get cKs back on track, big time. I won't bore you with the details, but I'll give a short teaser in the forum post "back on track!", for those who want to read. Additionally, part of the changes are going to include member support/roles, that were once a cornerstone to how we ran things and kept busy.
I'd like to thank everyone who was able to attend the meeting, and again, a personal shot out to Monte and BBD. To those who couldn't make it, or didn't realize there was one, so sorry, it was a spur of the moment thing. We are going to make this a habit though, with a goal being monthly "town hall" meetings, and there will be email notification, possibly txt notifications, and of course website notices further in advance. Thanks for your time, see ya online :)
